## Biography

Gabriel Scognamillo (1906–1974) was an Italian-American art director and production designer. He began his film career in France, where he worked on several early sound films including Jean Renoir's *La Chienne* (1931).

He moved to Hollywood in the mid-1930s and was under contract at MGM from 1934 to 1942 and again from 1949 to 1953. His credits there include *The Merry Widow* (1934), series entries such as the Andy Hardy and Maisie films, *The Story of Three Loves* (1953), for which he received an Academy Award nomination, and later work on *7 Faces of Dr. Lao* (1964).

Scognamillo's final screen credits were in the late 1960s, including production design on *Angel, Angel, Down We Go* (1969).
