## Biography

Gabriele Binder is a German costume designer. Born on 17 February 1961, she studied design and art history at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin. She began working in film in the mid-1980s as an assistant and took on her first full costume design credits from 1994.

Binder is known for her work on films including *The Lives of Others* (2006), for which she received a German Film Award nomination, *In the Land of Blood and Honey* (2011), *Never Look Away* (2018) and *Young Woman and the Sea* (2024). She has collaborated repeatedly with director Sherry Hormann. On television she designed costumes for the Netflix series *The Queen's Gambit* (2020), winning a Primetime Emmy and a Costume Designers Guild Award.

She is married to the artist Boris Ivandic and operates the costume repository COMMEdesCOSTUMES in Berlin.
