## Biography

Gaël Morel is a French director, screenwriter and actor. Born on 25 September 1972 in Villefranche-sur-Saône, Rhône, he grew up in the nearby village of Lacenas. At the age of 15 he left home to study film in Lyon before moving to Paris.

He was cast by André Téchiné in the lead role of François Forestier in the 1994 film *Wild Reeds* (*Les Roseaux sauvages*), which brought him critical attention and a César nomination for Most Promising Young Actor. Morel later turned to directing, with credits including the short *La Vie à rebours* (1995), *Full Speed* (*À toute vitesse*, 1996), *Three Dancing Slaves* (*Le Clan*, 2004) and *Our Paradise* (*Notre Paradis*, 2011). He has frequently worked with actors Stéphane Rideau and Élodie Bouchez, his co-stars from *Wild Reeds*.
