## Biography

Garry Sherman (born 28 December 1933) is an American musician, arranger, composer and orchestrator. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he began playing piano at the age of four. He studied medicine and podiatry at Temple University and completed an internship at the Illinois College of Podiatry before entering the music business in the early 1960s, while maintaining a parallel career as a sports podiatrist in New Jersey.

Sherman arranged numerous hit records in the 1960s, including work with Bert Berns and on Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl". His film credits include music supervision, composition and arrangement on *Alice's Restaurant* (1969) and composition on *The Heartbreak Kid* (1972). He has also worked on Broadway productions such as *Purlie* (1970–1972) and *Amen Corner* (1983), composed orchestral pieces, and served as chief orchestrator on advertising campaigns, winning several Clio Awards.
