## Biography

Gary Shteyngart, also credited as Igor Semyonovich Shteyngart, is a Soviet-born American novelist, screenwriter and occasional actor. Born on 5 July 1972 in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), he emigrated to the United States in 1979 and was raised in Queens, New York. He holds a BA from Oberlin College and an MFA from Hunter College.

Shteyngart is the author of several novels, including *The Russian Debutante's Handbook* (2002), *Absurdistan* (2006) and *Super Sad True Love Story* (2010). He wrote an episode of the HBO miniseries *The Regime* (2024) and served as consulting producer on the series. His acting credits include the role of Worthheimer in *Experimenter* (2015) and appearances in *Arranged* (2007) and other films and television.
