## Biography

Gary Tarn is a British filmmaker and composer. Born in 1962 in London, he began his career as a member of the band Drum Theatre, which had a European number-one hit in 1985 with 'Eldorado'. He later created soundtracks for commercials and short films, including the Brothers Quay's *The Phantom Museum* (2003).

Tarn's debut feature *Black Sun* (2005), which he directed, shot, edited, produced and scored, is a documentary exploring the life of French artist Hugues de Montalembert after he was blinded in a 1978 assault in New York. Executive produced by Alfonso Cuarón and produced by John Battsek, it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and received a nomination for the BAFTA Carl Foreman Award in 2007, as well as several festival prizes. His subsequent feature *The Prophet* (2011) adapts Kahlil Gibran's book, narrated by Thandie Newton.
