## Biography

Gayne Rescher, also credited as Jay Gayne Rescher, was an American cinematographer. He served as director of photography on the feature film *Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan* (1982), directed by Nicholas Meyer.

Rescher was born in New York City on 19 December 1924, the son of cinematographer Jay Rescher and silent-film actress Jean Tolley. He began his career in the 1950s with credits including *A Face in the Crowd* (1957). He worked on further features such as *Rachel, Rachel* (1968), *A New Leaf* (1971) and *Claudine* (1974), before moving primarily into television from the 1970s. Rescher also shot the television film *The Day After* (1983) for Meyer.

He received three Primetime Emmy Awards for cinematography and multiple nominations, along with American Society of Cinematographers awards. Rescher died in Gig Harbor, Washington, on 29 February 2008.
