## Biography

Gene Polito, also credited as Eugene Polito, was an American cinematographer. Born on 13 September 1918 in New York City, he was the son of cinematographer Sol Polito. He studied mechanical engineering at Loyola University and the University of Southern California before working as an engineer during the Second World War.

Polito began his career in cinematography in the late 1940s. His credits include *Colossus: The Forbin Project* (1970), *Prime Cut* (1972), *Westworld* (1973), *Futureworld* (1976) and *Up in Smoke* (1978). He also worked extensively in television on series such as *Lost in Space*. A member of the American Society of Cinematographers, he received a Primetime Emmy nomination and invented the Polito Bracket, a mounting accessory for reflectors. He later taught at the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

Polito died on 28 November 2010 in Irvine, California.
