## Biography

Gene Ruggiero was an American film editor. He began his career at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer after being dismissed from a job as a golf caddy; he received his first editing credit on the 1939 film *Ninotchka*.

Ruggiero edited numerous films at MGM and elsewhere, including *The Shop Around the Corner* (1940), *Oklahoma!* (1955), *Around the World in 80 Days* (1956) and *The Last Man on Earth* (1964). He shared the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for *Around the World in 80 Days* and received a nomination for *Oklahoma!*. He later worked on independent films and television episodes.

Ruggiero was a member of the American Cinema Editors and received the organisation's Career Achievement Award in 1994.
