## Biography

George Froeschel (also credited as Georg Fröschel) was an Austrian screenwriter. Born in Vienna in 1891, he trained as a lawyer and worked as a journalist and novelist before emigrating to the United States in 1936. He joined MGM as a screenwriter in 1939.

Froeschel is best known for his work on several MGM films in the 1940s and 1950s. He shared the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for *Mrs. Miniver* (1942) with James Hilton, Claudine West and Arthur Wimperis, and received a nomination in the same category for *Random Harvest* (1942). Other credits include *Waterloo Bridge* (1940), *The Mortal Storm* (1940), *Scaramouche* (1952) and *Quentin Durward* (1955). He died in Los Angeles in 1979.
