## Biography

George Lessey, also credited as George A. Lessey, was an American actor and director. He appeared in more than 120 films between 1910 and 1946, and directed more than 70 films between 1913 and 1922.

Born in Amherst, Massachusetts, he graduated from Amherst College and began acting on stage as a youth. He worked with Edison Studios as a leading man and later as a director, and joined Universal Studios as a director in 1914. He also appeared in the original Broadway production of Porgy and Bess (1935).

Among his later film roles were the Railroad President in Go West (1940), a judge in Boom Town (1940), Mr. Keats in Blossoms in the Dust (1941), Uncle Herbert (uncredited) in Now, Voyager (1942), and the Mayor of New Rochelle in The Pride of the Yankees (1942).
