George Lloyd Murphy (4 July 1902 – 3 May 1992) was an American actor and politician. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, he began his career as a dancer and stage performer before moving to Hollywood in the mid-1930s. He appeared in numerous musical films, including *Broadway Melody of 1940* (1940) as King Shaw and *For Me and My Gal* (1942) as Jimmy K. Metcalf.

Murphy is also known for his role as 'Pop' Stazak in the war film *Battleground* (1949). He served as president of the Screen Actors Guild from 1944 to 1946 and received an honorary Academy Award in 1951. After retiring from acting in 1952, he entered politics and represented California as a Republican in the United States Senate from 1965 to 1971.
