## Biography

George O'Brien (1899–1985) was an American actor who worked in both silent and sound films. He is best known for playing the lead role in F. W. Murnau's *Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans* (1927).

O'Brien began in Hollywood as a stuntman and extra before John Ford cast him in *The Iron Horse* (1924). He appeared in nine further films for Ford, including *Fort Apache* (1948), *She Wore a Yellow Ribbon* (1949) and *Cheyenne Autumn* (1964). He also starred in numerous Westerns during the 1930s and 1940s.

O'Brien served in both the First and Second World Wars. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to motion pictures.
