## Biography

Georges Benoît (also credited as Georges Benoit or George Benoit) was a French cinematographer who worked on more than sixty films. Active from the silent era into the early sound period, he began his career in the United States around 1915, photographing numerous Hollywood productions including *The Regeneration* (1915). He later returned to France, where he contributed to films such as *Fanny* (1932), on which he served as camera operator.

In France he worked with directors including Marcel Pagnol, for whom he was director of photography on *The Baker's Wife* (1938). Benoît also directed two films and appeared as an actor in approximately ten productions between 1929 and 1934. He died in 1942.
