## Biography

Georges Périnal was a French cinematographer. He began working in French films in 1913 and collaborated with directors including Jean Grémillon, René Clair and Jean Cocteau on early features such as *The Blood of a Poet* (1932).

In 1933 he moved to Britain to work for Alexander Korda’s London Films. His credits there include *The Private Life of Henry VIII* (1933), *Things to Come* (1936), *The Four Feathers* (1939), *The Thief of Bagdad* (1940), *The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp* (1943) and *The Fallen Idol* (1948). He later photographed *A King in New York* (1957) and *Bonjour Tristesse* (1958).

Périnal received an Academy Award for colour cinematography on *The Thief of Bagdad*. He retired after *Oscar Wilde* (1960) and died in London in 1965.
