She first gained attention for her performance in Josef von Sternberg’s *The Salvation Hunters* (1925) and was then cast by Charlie Chaplin as the dance-hall girl Georgia in *The Gold Rush* (1925). The success of *The Gold Rush* led to a contract with Paramount Pictures. Among her subsequent roles was Myrtle Wilson in the first screen adaptation of *The Great Gatsby* (1926). Her other films include *The Rainmaker* (1926), *Man of the Forest* (1926) and *The Last Moment* (1928). Hale’s film career ended with the transition to sound pictures.
