## Biography

Gerald Blake was a British television director who worked in drama from the 1960s to the 1980s. He directed the *Doctor Who* (1963) stories *The Abominable Snowmen* (1967) and *The Invasion of Time* (1978).

Blake began his career as an actor in repertory theatre, appearing in productions at Burnham and Farnham before becoming stage director at the New Shakespeare Theatre, Liverpool. In 1958 he became associate producer at the Theatre Royal, Lincoln. He joined the BBC in 1962 after a drama producer's course and went on to direct episodes of series including *EastEnders* (1985), *Coronation Street* (1960), *Emmerdale* (1972), *Blake's 7* (1978), *The Onedin Line*, *Survivors* and *The Omega Factor*.
