Gerda Stevenson is a Scottish actress, director and writer. Born on 10 April 1956 in West Linton, Peeblesshire, she trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

She played Mother MacClannough in *Braveheart* (1995) and Greta Thorburn in *Blue Black Permanent* (1992), winning the BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actress for the latter. Her other screen credits include roles in *Midsomer Murders* (as Sandra Bradshaw) and *Shetland* (as Maria Markham). She has also worked extensively in theatre, with notable stage roles including the title character in Edwin Morgan’s translation of Racine’s *Phèdre* and Lady Macbeth.

Stevenson is the daughter of composer Ronald Stevenson and sister of musician Savourna Stevenson. She was married to poet Aonghas MacNeacail from 1980 until his death in 2022; they had two children.
