## Biography

Gerry Mill is a British television director and producer. He began his career at the BBC as a floor manager and production assistant on series including *Hancock's Half Hour* and *Doctor Who* (1963), working as a production assistant on *The Massacre* before directing the serial *The Faceless Ones* in 1967.

Mill directed episodes of numerous British series, among them *Coronation Street*, *Z-Cars*, *Robin of Sherwood* (1984), *London's Burning* and *Heartbeat*. He directed more than fifty episodes of *Heartbeat* and produced almost two hundred episodes of the series between 1996 and 2004. He is the godfather of actor Benedict Cumberbatch.
