## Biography

Gianni Hecht Lucari (1922–1998) was an Italian film and television producer. Born in Vienna to a family of Austrian, Jewish and French ancestry, he served as an intelligence officer with the British Army during the Second World War. After the war he founded the production company Documento Film in Rome in 1950.

Lucari produced around fifty feature films between 1954 and 1980, working with directors including Vittorio De Sica, Mario Monicelli, Mauro Bolognini and Pasquale Squitieri. Among his credits are *Too Bad She's Bad* (1954), *The Girl with a Pistol* (1968), *Metello* (1970), *The Garden of the Finzi-Continis* (1970), *A Girl in Australia* (1971) and *I Am the Law* (1977). He received David di Donatello awards for best producer for *The Girl with a Pistol*, *Metello*, *The Garden of the Finzi-Continis* and *I Am the Law*. *The Garden of the Finzi-Continis* also won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
