## Biography

Gianni Sbarra (1929–2015), also credited as Giovanni Sbarra, was an Italian production designer and scenographer. Born in Siena, Tuscany, he began his working life as a baseball player and won the first Italian championship with Lazio.

From the late 1960s to the 1990s he worked primarily with directors Paolo and Vittorio Taviani on films including *Allonsanfàn* (1974), *Padre Padrone* (1977), *The Night of the Shooting Stars* (1982) and *Fiorile* (1993), for which he received the David di Donatello for best production design. Other credits include *Sweet Dreams* (1981, as Giovanni Sbarra) and films by Nanni Moretti such as *Ecce bombo* (1978) and *Sweet Dreams* (1981).
