## Biography

Gilbert Taylor (12 April 1914 – 23 August 2013) was an English cinematographer, sometimes credited as Gil Taylor. He began working in the film industry in 1929 as a camera assistant and served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War.

Taylor is known for his black-and-white work on *Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb* (1964), *A Hard Day's Night* (1964), *Repulsion* (1965) and *Cul-de-sac* (1966), as well as later colour films including *Frenzy* (1972), *The Omen* (1976) and *Star Wars* (1977). He collaborated with directors Stanley Kubrick, Roman Polanski, Richard Lester and George Lucas.

He received BAFTA nominations for best cinematography on *Repulsion* and *Cul-de-sac*, and the American Society of Cinematographers International Achievement Award in 2006.
