## Biography

Gina Atwater is a writer, director and producer. She graduated from Emory College in 2006 with degrees in Film Studies and Creative Writing, and later earned an MFA in Film from Columbia University’s School of the Arts.

She began her career working as an assistant to J.J. Abrams at Bad Robot Productions on films including *Star Trek Into Darkness* (2013), *Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens* (2015) and *Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation* (2015). Atwater joined the writers’ room for HBO’s *Westworld* (2016) as a writers’ assistant for the first season, rising to staff writer and later executive story editor; she wrote episodes including “The Riddle of the Sphinx” (2018) and “Passed Pawn” (2020).

In 2021 she signed a multi-year overall deal with Netflix, with her first project an adaptation of the novel *Raybearer*. She has also written a feature adaptation of Ann Petry’s *The Street*, announced in 2025. Earlier short films she wrote and directed include *Joy in the Morning* (2009) and *Crossing* (2012).
