## Biography

Giorgio Agamben is an Italian philosopher and occasional actor. Born in Rome on 22 April 1942, he studied law at the Sapienza University of Rome, graduating in 1965.

While a student he appeared as the apostle Filippo in Pier Paolo Pasolini's film *The Gospel According to St. Matthew* (1964). He has since become known for his writings on political philosophy, including concepts such as the state of exception, biopolitics and homo sacer.
