## Biography

Gordon Hollingshead was an American film producer and assistant director. Born on 8 January 1892 in Garfield, New Jersey, he began his career as an assistant director in the silent era, working on films including *The Jazz Singer* (1927), *42nd Street* (1933) and *Footlight Parade* (1933). He joined Warner Bros. in 1921 and remained with the studio until his death.

Hollingshead produced his first film in 1934 and went on to produce 174 films and shorts. He is credited as producer on *Captain Blood* (1935). He headed Warner Bros.' short subjects department and received numerous Academy Award nominations and wins, primarily for live-action short films and documentaries, including *Star in the Night* (1945) and *Hitler Lives* (1945). He died on 8 July 1952 in Balboa Island, California.
