Gregory Widen is an American screenwriter, film director and novelist. He wrote the screenplay for the film *Highlander* (1986) while an undergraduate at UCLA.

Widen worked as a firefighter for three years and drew on that experience for the screenplay of *Backdraft* (1991). In 1995 he wrote and directed the supernatural thriller *The Prophecy*.
