## Biography

Grover Dale is an American actor, dancer, choreographer and theatre director. Born on 22 July 1935 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he studied dance in McKeesport before making his professional debut with the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera in 1953. His Broadway stage debut came in 1956 in *Li'l Abner* as a dancer; he later appeared in the original cast of *West Side Story* and in other musicals including *Half a Sixpence*.

Dale's film credits include *The Unsinkable Molly Brown* (1964) as Jam, *The Young Girls of Rochefort* (1967) as Bill, *Half a Sixpence* (1967) as Pearce and *The Landlord* (1970) as Oscar. He has been nominated for two Tony Awards, for choreography of *Billy* (1970) and direction of *The Magic Show* (1975), and received a Primetime Emmy nomination for choreography of the 1985 television musical *Copacabana*. He was married to actress Anita Morris from 1973 until her death in 1994.
