## Biography

Günther Krampf was an Austrian cinematographer. He was born on 8 February 1899 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary, and died on 4 August 1950 in London. He studied at the Technical Academy in Vienna and learned the craft of cinematography at production companies in Vienna and Berlin.

Krampf worked as assistant cameraman, alongside Fritz Arno Wagner, on F. W. Murnau’s *Nosferatu* (1922). He served as cinematographer on G. W. Pabst’s *Pandora’s Box* (1929), Robert Wiene’s *The Hands of Orlac* (1924), Henrik Galeen’s *The Student of Prague* (1926), and Slatan Dudow’s *Kuhle Wampe* (1932).

From 1931 he worked for British companies and settled in the United Kingdom. His later credits include *Rome Express* (1932), *The Ghoul* (1933), and, during the Second World War, Alfred Hitchcock’s propaganda shorts *Bon Voyage* and *Aventure malgache* (both 1944).
