## Biography

Gustavo Pittaluga González del Campillo (1906–1975) was a Spanish composer, conductor and essayist. Born in Madrid, he studied law and music, with Óscar Esplá as his composition teacher and with influence from Manuel de Falla. He was a member of the Grupo de los Ocho, a group of composers associated with the Generation of '27, and read its founding manifesto in 1930.

After the Spanish Civil War he went into exile, settling in Mexico in the late 1940s. There he composed film scores for several Luis Buñuel films, including *The Young and the Damned* (1950, also credited with Rodolfo Halffter), *Mexican Bus Ride* (1952) and *Viridiana* (1961). He returned to Madrid in 1962 and lived privately until his death.
