## Biography

Guy Bolton was an Anglo-American playwright and librettist. Born on 23 November 1884 in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, England, he trained as an architect in New York and Paris before turning to writing. His first play appeared in 1911, and he soon specialised in musical theatre, collaborating frequently with P.G. Wodehouse and composers such as Jerome Kern, George and Ira Gershwin and Cole Porter.

Bolton wrote or co-wrote more than fifty stage works, including the influential Princess Theatre musicals and *Anything Goes* (1934). His screen credits include *The Love Parade* (1929), *Waltzes from Vienna* (1934), *Angel* (1937) and *Easter Parade* (1948). He also produced stage adaptations of novels and, with Wodehouse, the memoir *Bring on the Girls!* (1953). Bolton died on 5 September 1979 in London.
