## Biography

Sir Guy Standing (1 September 1873 – 24 February 1937) was an English actor. He served in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve during the First World War, reaching the rank of commander, and was seconded to MI6 before transferring to the Ministry of Information. For his service, including as part of the British War Mission to the United States, he was appointed CBE in 1918 and KBE in 1919.

After a career in British and American theatre, Standing moved to Hollywood in the early 1930s and appeared in Paramount films, often in authority roles. He is known for *The Story of Temple Drake* (1933) as Judge Drake, *Death Takes a Holiday* (1934) as Duke Lambert, and *The Lives of a Bengal Lancer* (1935) as Colonel Tom Stone. He was the son of actor Herbert Standing and the father of actress Kay Hammond.
