## Biography

Guzzi Lantschner, born Gustav Lantschner on 12 August 1910 in Innsbruck, Austria, was a skier, actor and cinematographer. He competed successfully in alpine skiing during the early 1930s, winning medals at world championships and a silver medal in the slalom at the 1936 Winter Olympics.

Lantschner began acting in mountain films, appearing in *Der weiße Rausch* (1931), *Abenteuer im Engadin* (1932) and *Nordpol – Ahoi!* (1934). His connection with Leni Riefenstahl led to work behind the camera; he served as cinematographer and editor on *Triumph des Willens* (1935) and the two-part documentary *Olympia* (1938).

He also directed short documentaries including *Wilde Wasser* (1937) and *Osterskitour in Tirol* (1940). Lantschner died on 19 March 2011 in Krailling, Germany.
