## Biography

Gwyneth Hughes is a British television screenwriter, documentary director and former journalist. She trained as a reporter on the Sheffield Morning Telegraph, worked on the newsdesk at Yorkshire Television, and later directed documentaries specialising in history and true crime before moving into drama writing.

Her credits include the adaptations *Miss Austen Regrets* (2008), *The Girl* (2012), *Vanity Fair* (2018), *Remember Me* (2014) and *Tom Jones* (2023), as well as original works such as *Cherished*, *Honour* and *Three Families*. She wrote and served as executive producer on the 2024 ITV series *Mr Bates vs The Post Office*. In 2025 she received the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Outstanding Contribution to Writing Award and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
