## Biography

György Barkó was a Romanian-Hungarian actor. Born in Purcăreni, Romania, he trained at the István Szentgyörgyi Theatre Institute in Cluj and became a member of the Hungarian State Theatre in Cluj-Napoca from 1954 until 1989.

He resettled in Hungary in 1989 and joined the Pécs National Theatre. Barkó appeared in numerous films, including Béla Tarr’s *Satantango* (1994) as the school director (Iskolaigazgató), *Werckmeister Harmonies* (2000) as Mr. Nadabán, and *In July* (2000). He received the Pécs City Arts Award in 2006 and the Hilda Gobbi Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.
