## Biography

H. A. R. Thomson, also credited as Russell Thomson or Bob Thomson, was a British cinematographer. Born Harold Arthur Robert Thomson in London on 30 September 1910, he began working in the film industry in the 1920s and 1930s, progressing from assistant roles to camera operator.

Thomson served in the Royal Navy's camera unit during the Second World War. He worked extensively as a camera operator and second-unit cinematographer on numerous British and international productions through the 1950s and 1960s, including *Victim* (1961), *Khartoum* (1966) and *Where Eagles Dare* (1968). He served as director of photography on *The Naked Prey* (1965), episodes of the television series *The Avengers* (1961), and *No Blade of Grass* (1970).

Thomson died on 3 July 2003 in Taunton, Somerset.
