## Biography

Hagar Wilde was an American screenwriter, novelist, short story writer and playwright active from the 1930s to the 1950s. Born Beverly Violet Bidwell in Toledo, Ohio, in 1905, she published short stories in magazines before being hired by Howard Hughes in 1931 to write dialogue for the film *The Age for Love*.

Wilde wrote the original story for *Bringing Up Baby* (1938), first published in Collier's Weekly, and co-wrote the screenplay with Dudley Nichols. Her other film credits include the story and adaptation for *Carefree* (1938) and the screenplay for *I Was a Male War Bride* (1949). She also wrote for television series in the 1950s and had stage work including the play *Guest in the House*.

She died in California in 1971.
