Born on 3 October 1952 in Imari, Saga Prefecture, he is a second-generation Korean resident of Japan. He formed the Hakuryu band in 1978 and made his recording debut the following year before entering film in 1984 with Yoichi Sai's *Someone Will Be Killed*. He is known for roles in Takeshi Kitano's films, including *Violent Cop* (1989) as Kiyohiro and *Fireworks* (1997) as the Yakuza Hitman. Other credits include *The Good, the Bad, the Weird* (2008), *My Way* (2011), *Beyond Outrage* (2012) and *Outrage Coda* (2017).
