Hal Kanter (1918–2011) was an American writer, producer and director who worked principally in comedy for film and television.

He wrote screenplays for films including *Artists and Models* (1955), *The Rose Tattoo* (1955), *Loving You* (1957), *Blue Hawaii* (1961), *Pocketful of Miracles* (1961) and *Move Over, Darling* (1963). He created and served as executive producer on the television series *Julia* (1968–1971) and worked as a writer and producer on *All in the Family* (1971).

Kanter contributed regularly as a writer to the Academy Awards broadcasts, beginning in the early 1950s. He won multiple Emmy Awards for his television work.
