## Biography

Hal Smith (1916–1994) was an American actor and voice actor. He appeared in over 300 film and television productions and was best known for playing Otis Campbell, the town drunk, on the CBS series *The Andy Griffith Show* (1960–1966).

Smith provided voices for numerous animated productions, including Owl in *The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh* (1977) and subsequent shorts, Goofy in *Mickey's Christmas Carol* (1983), and Philippe in the Disney film *Beauty and the Beast* (1991). He also voiced characters in series such as *DuckTales* (1987) and *Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!* (1969). Earlier in his career he worked in radio and served in the US Army Air Forces during the Second World War.
