## Biography

Hala Matar is a Bahraini-American director, writer and producer based in Los Angeles. Her feature directorial debut, the thriller *Electra* (2024), which she also co-wrote and co-produced, premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and received a US theatrical release in 2025. She is the first Bahraini woman to direct a feature film.

Matar previously directed short films including *Streetcar* (2013) and *L'Ariel* (2018), as well as music videos and fashion films for brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Vivienne Westwood. She studied theatre before taking a cinematography class at the University of Virginia that led her into filmmaking.
