## Biography

Hannah Weinstein (née Dorner) was an American producer, journalist and political activist. Born in New York City on 23 June 1911, she worked as a journalist and speechwriter before moving to Europe in 1950. In London she founded Sapphire Films and executive produced the television series *The Adventures of Robin Hood* (1955–1960) and several other period adventure series.

Returning to the United States in the early 1960s, Weinstein co-founded the Third World Cinema Corporation in 1971 to produce films featuring Black and Latino talent. She produced *Claudine* (1974), *Greased Lightning* (1977) and *Stir Crazy* (1980). In 1982 she received the Women in Film Crystal Award. She died in New York City on 9 March 1984.
