## Biography

Hanns Kräly (also credited as Hans Kraly) was a German screenwriter and actor. Born in Hamburg in 1884, he began writing for films in the early 1910s and collaborated extensively with director Ernst Lubitsch from 1916 onwards, contributing to numerous German productions before moving to Hollywood with Lubitsch in 1923.

His screenwriting credits include *The Doll* (1919), *The Oyster Princess* (1919), *I Don't Want to Be a Man* (1918), *The Eagle* (1925) and *The Wildcat* (1921). In Hollywood he worked on films such as *The Patriot* (1928), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Writing, *The Last of Mrs. Cheyney* (1929) and *One Hundred Men and a Girl* (1937). He continued writing until the early 1940s and died in Los Angeles in 1950.
