Viholainen worked primarily as a lighting designer and was closely associated with the rock band Sielun Veljet, where he was sometimes described as the group's fifth member. He appeared in small acting roles in several Finnish films, including as the Accomplice in Aki Kaurismäki's *Ariel* (1988), as well as in *Zombie ja Kummitusjuna* (1991), *Räpsy & Dolly eli Pariisi odottaa* (1990) and *Viiva vinita – tavallisen ihmisen museo* (1991).
