## Biography

Hans Charles is a cinematographer and producer. He studied cinema at the Los Angeles Film Studies Center and later completed an MFA in film at Howard University. He has worked as a director of photography on documentaries and television series, including sharing the role on Ava DuVernay’s *13th* (2016).

Charles is an associate professor of cinematography at George Mason University. His credits include work with directors such as DuVernay on *Venus Vs.* (2013) and Salim Akil, as well as episodes of *All American: Homecoming* (2022–2024) and the documentary series *Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men* (2019). He received an Emmy nomination for outstanding cinematography for a nonfiction programme for *13th*.
