## Biography

Hans Conried was an American actor and comedian, active from 1937 to 1981. Born Hans Georg Conried Jr. on 15 April 1917 in Baltimore, Maryland, he studied acting at Columbia University and began his career in radio and on stage, including work with Orson Welles's Mercury Theatre.

He was known for voice roles, notably as Captain Hook and Mr. Darling in the 1953 Disney film *Peter Pan*, as well as Snidely Whiplash in the Dudley Do-Right cartoons. Other credits include the title role in *The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T* (1953), Uncle Tonoose on the sitcom *Make Room for Daddy*, Professor Kropotkin on *My Friend Irma*, and appearances on *I Love Lucy*. He made his Broadway debut in *Can-Can* (1953). Conried died on 5 January 1982 in Burbank, California.
