## Biography

Hans Rameau was a German screenwriter. Born Paul Hans Julius Gulder in Berlin on 28 November 1901, he began his career in the German film industry in the 1920s, working as a writer, actor and assistant director on titles including *Faust* (1926).

Following the Nazi Party's rise to power in 1933, Rameau left Germany. He worked in Austria and Britain before moving to Hollywood, where he contributed to screenplays for *Waterloo Bridge* (1940), *The Mortal Storm* (1940) and *Madame Curie* (1943). He returned to Europe in 1951 and continued writing for German and Austrian productions until the mid-1960s. Rameau died on 9 April 1980 in Gavignano, Italy.
