## Biography

Harold Hecht (1907–1985) was an American film producer. Born in Manhattan, he began his career as a dancer and choreographer before becoming a talent agent and theatrical producer. In 1947 he co-founded Norma Productions with Burt Lancaster, later forming Hecht-Lancaster Productions and, from 1954, Hecht-Hill-Lancaster Productions.

Hecht produced *Marty* (1955), which won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and *Separate Tables* (1958), for which he received a further nomination. Other notable productions include *Sweet Smell of Success* (1957), *The Unforgiven* (1960), *Birdman of Alcatraz* (1962) and *Cat Ballou* (1965).
