## Biography

Harold Pinter was a British playwright, screenwriter, director and actor. Born on 10 October 1930 in Hackney, London, he died on 24 December 2008.

He wrote the screenplay for *The Servant* (1963), directed by Joseph Losey, and appeared in the film as a society man in a restaurant scene. Other screenplays include *Accident* (1967), *The Go-Between* (1971), *The French Lieutenant's Woman* (1981), *The Handmaid's Tale* (1990) and *Sleuth* (2007). He also adapted several of his own plays for the screen.

Pinter received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2005. His plays include *The Birthday Party* (1957), *The Homecoming* (1964) and *Betrayal* (1978).
