## Biography

Harold Rome was an American composer and lyricist for musical theatre. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, on 27 May 1908, he studied architecture at Yale University before pursuing music full time.

He first achieved success with the topical revue *Pins and Needles* (1937). His Broadway musicals include *Wish You Were Here* (1952), *Fanny* (1954), *Destry Rides Again* (1959) and *I Can Get It for You Wholesale* (1962). The 1961 film version of *Fanny* used his score as underscoring. Rome died in New York City on 26 October 1993.
