## Biography

Harold Vermilyea (also credited as Harold Vermilye) was an American actor. Born in New York City on 10 October 1889, he began his stage career in 1914 with an appearance in *The Lion and the Mouse* on Broadway. He performed in more than thirty Broadway productions over four decades, including *Boy Meets Girl* (1935–1937), *Deep Are the Roots* (1945–1946) and *Jacobowsky and the Colonel* (1944–1945).

After serving in the US Army Ambulance Service during the First World War and working in radio, Vermilyea appeared in a series of films in the late 1940s, among them *O.S.S.* (1946), *Gentleman's Agreement* (1947) as Lou Jordan, *The Big Clock* (1948) as Don Klausmeyer, *Sorry, Wrong Number* (1948) as Waldo Evans and *Born to Be Bad* (1950) as John Caine. He later moved into television before his death in New York City on 8 January 1958.
